Hey alll! Man it got to be like 9, last night and I hadn’t posted so I decided to call it a night. Howwwwever, now – I feel a rewind is in order.

Yesterday was an off day (as many of ’em have been this week, eh?) – but I pushed through and was out the door into the snowy mess that was Boston yesterday morning. I was soaked but managed to make it to the Starbucks close to the building my class was in in about 20 minutes. I said YES PLEASE – to a skinny hazelnut latte and enjoyed every sip.

The day was long – and there may or may not have been another coffee mixed in there – along with miscellaneous munchies that escaped my camera. However, the piece de resistance: SUBWAY (eat fresh!) … a Veggie Delite on Honey Oat with Southwest Chipotle sauce. YUM.

Dinner was pizza..unpicture (sorry for my lack of pictures…boo). Palmetto’s? or somthing like that.

Since my pictures have been lacking — I figured I’d show you my lunch for today! haha I made myself a sandwich using an oat/flax pita, baby romaine greens, swiss cheese and a few VERY thin slices of salami. ๐Ÿ™‚ Very deliciousssss.

I hope you all are doing amazingly!!! I feel so out of step with the blogosphere…I haven’t gotten back to reading entries as much as I’d like. boo!!

Usin' the ole bean

Hey hey hey. Ahhh, it feels so good to be done with midterms!! I don’t really know how I did on my last one (I feel like I never get a good night’s sleep before exams for this one, specific course). However, I did the best that I could and racked the ole bean for every possible answer. *sigh*

I’m only one day of 2 classes away from Spring Break and I’m so so so so so happy. ๐Ÿ˜€

In the process of editing my photos, I realized how … monotone my eats were today. For that – apologies!!

I started off with a homemade latte – briiiight and early (5am). Definitely needed. I spent the morning going over final details of study guides and all that jazz.

I also grabbed another skinny hazelnut latte from Starbucks on my way to class in the morning..the caffeine was definitely needed.

Since my course has two sections, we spent the first half reviewing, and when we had a break – I fueled up with a LUNA. Yum. ๐Ÿ™‚ Even if food didn’t help my think more clearly, it definitely calmed my nerves to munch on something.

After surviving the day, I came home and fueled up on some apricots and some White Chocolate Wonderful — more than what is shown in these pics. haha

I am not gonna lie – I napped this afternoon. I ran some errands and then I crashed. It felt reallllly good, and what was even better? Time for dinner when I woke up! haha ๐Ÿ™‚

On the menu, Trader Joe’s Black Bean Soup with Sriracha and some toasted tortilla for dippage. I did enjoy this – but it wasn’t my favorite. I think I expected it to be thicker. I will probably buy again, but I might enhance it with some incredients of my own.

Tonight, I’m determined to get everything done for tomorrow so that I can spend the day out and about and then I have dinner plans tomorrow night! Yay!

It's what's on the inside that counts…

Evening my lovelies! Hope you are all doin’ well! It is a wet..wet..wet..wet..WET day in Boston. Luckily, I was armed with an umbrella and my hair was kind and didn’t get all frizzy and nasty. So it was a good day. haha

I had the first day of my French class today — and gahh, I hate the fact that I have classes back to back cuz it means I have to sit towards the back of the room, and honestly, I hate sitting so far back..I just feel disconnected. Plus, I think I my brain was totally awesome and forgot every single thing that I learned last semester…oy. *hitting the books*

I had “good” luck today at Starbucks. They made my drink wrong (they always make a skinny vanilla instead of hazelnut… c’monnnn – people can order a “ in gold” and they get it right — but “skinny.hazelnut.latte.” is too much…okay done griping), so I got 2 tall lattes for the price of one. Score! It’s not that I don’t *like* vanilla…it’s just that most of the time they make them reallllly sweet. Lucky for me, this vanilla one wasn’t…so I downed a tall skinny hazelnut and a tall skinny vanilla in about an hour. haha Needless to say I was READY!! for my last class of the day!!

I hadn’t eaten all day (just 2 lattes in the belly)…so my stomach was pretty much eating itself by the time I got home. I skeptically chose a banana that looked a little past its… They always say ‘never judge a book by its cover’ …never judge a banana…oh you get it. The banana was perfect, and so yummy. Nom.Nom.Nom.

As delicious as it was…more food was necessary…in came a lovely string cheese. Love these puppies. Playing with your food is just … fun.

For lunch, I made myself a ginormous bowl of split pea soup (avec parsley).

With that bowl, I hit a huggghh jasssss milestone. I finished the soup. Wooo! haha I can’t believe I finished it before it went bad. How long did that take me? A week and a half, maybe? haha


I mostly vegged all afteroon — the disgusting weather (though it was wicked warm! 52!) was NOT motivating. So I accomplished….nadda. Okay that’s a lie…I looked at blogs, commented…Facebooked…Twittered. haha :-p

Dinnnaah…I felt inspired to break out my wok…love that thing! (Yay IKEA!) So I sauteed up some brown rice, corn, mixed veggie medley, soy sauce and chili paste. THIS.WAS.BOMB. So delish.

Now, I should probably get some work done. Booo. I’m so over school…not a good thing when we’re only a week into the semester…haha I just wanna play!! …obvs not realistic…so I’ll be burying my nose in books soon enough. Perhaps rewarding myself every now and then with some Dark Chocolate Dreams every now and then…mwahaha.

Recouping + A Presidential Visit

Hey everyone!! Ahh yesterday was a beautiful day in Boston — it was abotu 45 degrees!! Amazing — unfortunately, I was feeling quite under the weather (hence my skippage of posting). This cough/gross thing that I’ve had since before Christmas refuses to go away. I just want to make sure I’m feeling my best (even if that is still somewhat crappy) for the beginning of the semester. Yesterday, I hung pretty low and just puttered around my apartment — I did get out in the morning for my coffee and in the evening for some bad, bad food. haha ๐Ÿ™‚

The morning was gorgeous — I was up particularly early and decided to make a run to the bucks. I decided to go to one further away from my house on Boylston Street just to get a little bit more of a walk in. In was my maiden voyage in using my gold card. haha Oh yes. I ended up getting a tall skinny hazelnut latte (I think I’ll start abbreviating it as SHL – I write it far too often. haha). I wandered back to my apartment with it, but not before some creepy man (he was definitely not right in the head) approached me, and said “Good morning, would you like to go on a date??” — I sped up (he tried to keep pace with me…yikes) and just said, “No thank you.” He eventually gave up — the more business-like man who was around me as this guy approached me paid attention to him (noticing him approach me) so I felt like even if this guy was crazy the other guy was watching out for me. Most the time I find if you’re polite in denying something (change to a homeless man, a cigarette to a homeless person, etc.) they don’t bug you…it’s when people are rude that you don’t hear the end of it.

Back in my apartment I might have imbibed in multiple spoonfuls of Peanut Butter & Co.’s Dark Chocolate Dreams AND Cinnamon Raisin Swirl. CRS is really good. For me, it is more of a “it should go on something” peanut butter — rather than DCD which I can eat straight from the jar with no prob. However, that didn’t stop me from eating spoonfuls of both. (No pics, sry loves).

For lunch, I decided to try and get something decent in my system so I heated up some leftover split pea soup in the microwave. It was soo much better yesterday (definitely one of those “gets better with age” type things…) and it was really good — though I didn’t have too much of it…just a mug.

At that point, after wolfing down the soup — I decided I wanted something crunch — POPCORN…immediately ran into my head. Bad choice, Jil. Bad choice. I popped some up on the stove…salted it with the cool bottle salt shakers my aunt and uncle made me..and then I dove in…BAD CHOICE. Within 5 minutes…COUGH COUGH COUGH. It was very unpleasant, and I’ll leave it at that.

I survived attack-by-popcorn and just snuggled in bed for the rest of the afternoon — I think I napped…I don’t remember.

Anyway, I awoke around 4, and was just craaaaaaving horrible food. Like buffalo chicken and mozz sticks. I gave in. I’m not making excuses for it, but I honestly think my bod was just like — okay we need some fats in your system right now and I don’t care how you get them. Needless to say, I made the trek to Shaw’s and went straight to the frozen food aisle and picked some out.

It was really good. I honestly do not regret it at all — though I was too lazy to take pics…I had some TGIFriday’s buffalo popcorn chicken and buffalo mozzarella sticks. I didn’t stuff myself — I didn’t feel bloated and gross after — I think my body actually needed it. and calories were the furthest thing from my mind.

I crawled into bed…NyQuil by my side and slept forrrever. I slept in so late today — I was supposed to get together with a friend, and I sort of …bailed…horrible I know..but you gotta do what you gotta do. I woke up feeling a lot better — still stuffy but I have not coughed nearly as much today!! Yay. I am still medicating with some DayQuil but I just feel more myself today.

My brother stopped by this afternoon, and we chatted for a bit and talked about how President Obama is in town this afternoon and how people get all ridiculous about it. We have this special Senate race going on in Massachusetts right now – due to Ted Kennedy’s death (rest in peace) – and the Democratic candidate is floundering a bit so Obama is here to try to get her some more support before the elections on Tuesday. I’m avoiding all formed of public transportation — haha. I imagine they are a mess…he’s speaking at 3 at Northeastern University. The amount of helicopters above my apartment today has easily tripled.

After Greg left, I decided to give my ole espresso maker a try again! My mom bought me replacement pieces for it for Christmas (such a good mommy), so I got to work creating some epic espresso. SUCCESS!! I made myself a lovely latte this afternoon and enjoyed with a small spoonful of DCD and later a cheese stick. haha What a combo.

I hope everyone’s weekend has gone well – I may post again tonight — we’ll see where I am at. I have a couple of cover letters to write as well…joy! hahaha

Coups & Soups

Evening everyone!! Happpy Friday! ๐Ÿ™‚ Well…at this point — HAPPY WEEKEND!

Today was a productive day. I was up verrrry early because I fell asleep extremely early last night. I think I fell asleep around 8:45 or 9 — which meant..BING at 4:15 I was wide awake. I made myself stay in bed until 5:30 because I was hoping I would fall back asleep.

I got up, and before anything — tuned into my OnDemand and did about 25 minutes of yoga. It was glorious.

After that I cleaned up (aka took a looong shower) and made myself some tea. I checked up on some e-mail and blogs that I had missed falling asleep so early, and just relaxed on the couch for a while.

I put together a list of everything I needed to get done today — and thought about the best possible way to get all of those things done with the least amount of travel. haha I needed to pick up a book at the bookstore, go grocery shopping at more than one grocery store (love Trader Joe’s but there’s always a few things that they just don’t have), etc. etc. etc.

I got a move on around 10-ish (I relaxed for a while, k?? hahaha), and made a quick stop into my fave haunt – Starbucks – and got myself a venti Skinny Hazelnut Latte (you know how I do)…I got it free with a coup they sent me. Woohooo for a coup and no drink size limit!! Iย first went to the bookstore to pick up the very last textbook that I needed. It was an ordeal and they couldn’t find it at first — but I have it now…I have TOO many books this semester — oyyy.

I felt no shame taking this picture while waiting for the T — there are many people doing weirder things that taking pictures of their coffee. haha

Anyway, while at the store – I decided to make a trip into Whole Foods — seeing as it was riiiight there. ๐Ÿ™‚ I perused the aisles, and stumbled on some Cinnamon Raisin Swirl by Peanut Butter & Co. (I was looking for Mighty Maple..but I can’t find it anyyyywhere!). I haven’t tried that flavor before, and it was on “special” — so it was cheappoo. I said, “Why not?!” I also picked up some split peas and some sushi to soothe my hungry tummy.

I haven’t tried it yet – hope it’s good.

The wasabi I added postย paparazziย attack was a good solution to the sinus issues I’ve been having. haha

After noshing on the delish sushi, I headed to Trader Joe’s – where as always – bargain mania. They had rearranged the store since the last time I was there so I must’ve looked like a lost puppy wandering around. haha I came away with a damn good haul or fruits, veggies, milk, flax, uhh…what else did I get? haha Either way — my fridge now has food in it where as before — it had a Brita, champagne, Smart Balance and that’s it. haha

A full fridge is a happy fridge — okay so it’s not all that full…but I am only one girl! haha And a lot of my stuff doesn’t need to live in the fridge. ๐Ÿ™‚

This evening I set to work making split pea soup. Nom. It came out pretty good — I didn’t want to add bacon or ham so I subbed in some curry powder for a smokier taste. Yum. I also added spinach — nutritious and it makes it look a heck of a lot more appetizing. haha Dollop of Fage for fun.

I’ll be eating this fooo-eva. It made so much. haha

I hope everyone survived their week and has some fun planned for the weekend!!

The power of positive thought

I said it would all work out…and it did! ๐Ÿ™‚ Oh, the power of positive thought. It truly is what got me through the week — it was tough to try and stay positive, but just telling myself “You can do this, Jil” — was so helpful. Plus, as I mentioned before — you guys rock, and threw a lot of positive vibes in my direction! But now…it’s the weekend!! YAY!! I have NO plans. I am okay with that…lots of sleep is in my future. haha

I grabbed my usual skinny hazelnut on the way to class this morning. I probably could have gone for a larger coffee, and my body was pretty much yelling at me to stay in bed this morning…but I got a small because I knew that I would be heading back to bed the moment I got home. haha

Once, I got home…I did just that. Okay, so I made some breakfast first actually: yogurt mess: NF Fage, Blueberry flax, sunflower seeds and honey. I may not have crashed right away, but I did sleep — very soundly — from about 11-2pm. It was glorrrrious!

For lunch, I split up some Trader Joe’s sushi. I had 4 around 2:30 and then the rest around 4pm.They were alright. They tasted fine they were a little … dry? though. I don’t know…I usually don’t by prepacked sushi, but I didn’t have any food in the house so I just grabbed them the night before.

I then got productive! haha I made a run to the bank, and to the grocery store. Lots of success at the grocery store — however, I was disappointed because I could NOT for the life of me…find the tahini. I wanted to make my own hummus (put that food processor to use!), but FAIL. I literally looked every place I could think that it “might” be…but nope. haha Oh well, another day…another store…I WILL find it.

My goodies (yes, I also got Febreeze and body wash haha):

The cashier literally DROPPED my sweet potatoes everywhere when she was trying to bag them. I internally cringed a little, but she felt so bad…all I could think to say was “Don’t worry about it they’re tough little suckers.” haha I’m lame. ๐Ÿ™‚

I got home with every intention to do my laundry…but so did everyone else in my building. Laundry will have to wait…however, I did clean up my apartment and make a ton of rice!

For dinner, I used the brown rice, that I had just made, Laughing Cow, Salsa, roasted corn and spinach.

For dessert? Hmm…I’m thinking of digging into this sucker… ๐Ÿ™‚ Yumm. Dark Chocolate Dreams. One BIG spoonful. Yummm.

Seriously, the weather was pleasant for the month of November, but the moment the clock turned and it was officially December…BRRRR! It was 33 degrees this morning when I was walking to class, and right now it’s still only 38. Brrrrr. Ch-ch-chilly!! Luckily, I had a nice warm drink with me from the ‘bucks.

First though, I should start with last night’s dinner. Considering I ate it so late…I don’t know if it should have been considered dinner or a midnight meal! I nuked the last of the baked sweet potatoes that I had. I mashed it up, added some Sabra Chipotle Hummus, and some hot sauce. Yumm.

By the way, I was just looking at Sabra’s site and it says that they have a Cranberry and Fig Hummus?!??! Has anyone tried it????

For something a little sweet, before heading to bed…I believe it was around 12:30am at this point…I had a spoonful of honey peanut butter. ๐Ÿ™‚ Always hits the spot. Plus, it makes me chug a lot of water right before bed which makes my bod happ-happ-happy!

This morning, as I mentioned before, the walk to class was pretty brutal. 33 degrees…and it was windy. Rough. haha However, I made my usual stop for my skinny hazelnut latte. (I still have yet to “fix” my espresso maker) At first it tasted funny — too coffee-y for my taste, not enough hazelnut — but I think it was just because it was SO hot. As it cooled it was much more, because I wasn’t scalding my mouth (always a plus!) and 2. I could taste the hazelnut.

Anyway, I had to pick up some paperwork from one of my professors, and then I headed home — which was an equally as chilly walk, and for some reason always feels longer than my walk to school. Once I got home, I made myself a big bowl of yogurt mess: Fage Non-Fat Plain Greek Yogurt, flax, sunflower seeds and honey. I do have to say, I ran out of the honey that my family friend had harvested, and so I purchased some at the grocery store, and woah is there a difference. His was MUCH better..haha I mean, the honey I use isn’t bad, but it’s hard to go from AMAZING honey, to just plain honey. haha Once I’m done with this batch, I am going to go on the hunt for amazing stuff; it’s too bad the Copley Sq. Farmers market is finished for the season; I should have bought some there while I could!!

The rest of today is busy, busy, busy. I have a paper to write (start) for Thursday, a storyboard to draw for tomorrow…eeeeps, and a meeting tonight for my group project!! I don’t know when I’m going to get in tonight…hence my early post! I’m nervous about tomorrow — presentations…so not my thing. You wouldn’t know that I am absolutely fine singing in a chorus or in a musical in front of a large audience…but talking in front of a small group of people… terrifying!!
